I can honestly say I have never listened to a podcast. I've just always listened to the radio. But now that I know there are some interesting ones out there, I will have to give it a whirl.
Last week in my ITS program, we had to create our own podcast. It was a bit challenging, not ever using the software before. We had to learn as we went along. It took my partner and I a long time because we first wanted to have interesting information and secondly, we had to figure out the software, Audacity. But what better way to learn, by being thrown in the lion's den ;) No, it wasn't that bad. But there are some parts of the software I don't understand. First of all, I never had music all through school, so when we were trying to change one of our voices, I had know idea what it was going to sound like. Luckily, my partner figured it out.
Podcasts are great for different projects. In physical education, I could have students add in video podcasting to teach students different skills online. I know the kids in 5th grade would love getting their hands on a video camera and working on step by step skills for 1st graders. I can't wait to try it!
That sounds like a great way to get your students who are have to sit out of PE for the day to participate and do something great for everyone. Of course, you are right and video taping would work best for it, so you would really be "vodcasting" but I still love the idea! I wonder if there would be enough room on the school website where you could post one per week that students could use at home? What a great resource!
ReplyDeleteOh a seperate note, what school system were you in where you didn't have music class?
What a great idea Lucy! I will have to take resource and run with it! Vodcasting is coming to Countryside!
DeleteAnd I went to Colonial Beach High School, graduating class of 55. There was no music teacher or band. I guess it's not a requirement if you don't have the funds in your county. I really wish I could have taken it though. I have always wanted to learn piano!
Are you more inclined now to listen to podcasts now that you have some experience creating them?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, probably not. Unless I go out there and find something that really interests me that's not already on tv or the radio. I guess you could say I'm old school :)
